The detailed description of the worksheet
Introduction
Create your own vertical subtraction worksheet using sums from your maths textbook or any other source. Enter your numbers in the text area, and Sublime Maths Worksheets will arrange them into vertical subtraction problems using the column method.
This interactive worksheet lets you practise subtraction using your own problems instead of relying on automatically generated sums. It is ideal for working through textbook exercises, revising subtraction techniques, and practising multi-digit subtraction.
How to Create Your Worksheet
Enter two numbers separated by a comma on each line. Each line represents one subtraction problem.
You can enter numbers containing up to 6 digits and create a worksheet with up to 16 problems. If you enter the smaller number first, the two numbers will be swapped automatically in the generated problem so that the larger number comes first. Your original input in the text area will remain unchanged.
Once you have entered your numbers, create your worksheet to see the subtraction problems arranged vertically, ready for you to solve.
Practise Vertical Subtraction Using the Column Method
Vertical subtraction, also known as column subtraction or long subtraction, involves writing numbers one below another and aligning their place values before subtracting.
Work through each problem column by column, starting with the rightmost digit and moving towards the left. Depending on the numbers you enter, you may need to regroup, also known as borrowing or exchanging, to complete a subtraction problem.
An Interactive, Self-Correcting Worksheet
Solve each subtraction problem by entering your answer directly into the answer box. Receive instant feedback as you work, identify mistakes, and correct them immediately.
Everything runs online in your browser. There is no need to print or download worksheets.
